Sudarshans Second Wave: India Orders 5 New S-400 Systems to Secure the Borders

Friends according to the media reports , India is officially moving to acquire 5 additional squadrons of the Russian-made S-400 Sudarshan air defence system.

The proposal follows the system's successful performance during Operation Sindoor in May 2025, where it reportedly achieved the longest-ever air kill by hitting a high-value Pakistani reconnaissance aircraft over 300 km away.

Key Updates on the S-400 Acquisition:

Expansion Plan: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has proposed buying 5 more squadrons to bolster air defence on both the eastern and western fronts.

Original 2018 Deal: India is still awaiting the final 2 units from its original 5-unit order. Russia has assured delivery of the 4th squadron by May 2026 and the 5th by the end of 2026.

Missile Replenishment: Separate from the new squadrons, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) recently cleared a ₹10,000 crore deal to procure 288 additional missiles (120 short-range and 168 long-range) to replenish stocks used in 2025.

Indigenous Progress: While buying more S-400s, India is simultaneously developing its own long-range air defence system under Project Kusha.

The move is seen as a strategic response to the perceived failure of Chinese-origin air defence systems. Source google, media reports.
